Rodalyn Alvarez – CSR and Telemarketing
I started to work in the BPO industry way back in 2011. I had a boyfriend who was working at a call canter. I met him at a bar at that time when I didn’t have any work. Since most of his friends are also working in the call center, I got curious and wanted to explore this industry. I watched YouTube videos and even studied at BPO Academy to work with on my grammar.
Eventually, I landed my very first call center job. It was an outbound sales role for a pioneer account which was very challenging. I only lasted a month and then applied to a different company as a customer service representative. Unfortunately, the account was transferred to a different company. The location was not accessible for me so I decided to resign and applied to another company.
This is where I started gaining more experience and developed my skills. I even worked at a company that pays less with a workload that was way too much. It was also a challenging account because we have to resolve complaints about their bills. Overall, I’m still happy because I gained a lot of experience that helped me become more well-rounded.
I then became interested in working from home because you get to stay home while earning. You only need a laptop and a reliable internet connection. When the nanny of my kids left, I decided to work at home full time.
I was hired as an Outbound Inside Sales Rep, which is commission based only with no fixed rate. The job was very easy. They have a dialler where you read the script and if the customer agrees with the promo, you’ll just have to transfer the call to a dedicated department who will assess if the person is eligible for the offer. The job was really easy for me. In fact, I was able to get 700-750 calls in a day with around 25% of those calls being successful contacts.
Right now, I’m still looking for something that will improve my skills and allow me to learn new things especially in the freelancing industry.
