Rico Labrador – Auditor, Accounting, Financial Advisor
Hi, I am Rico Labrador. I am 25 years old with a degree in accounting from STI West Negros University. I think working in corporate jobs will be the solution to earning money. I used to fantasize about working with CEOs and other professional employees, which eventually came true. Until one day, after a quick conversation with a friend who works as a virtual assistant, he mentioned that he earns six figures from the comfort of his own home. This opportunity was still running through my mind at this point, so I began researching possible jobs that were aligned with my expertise.
My first virtual job is being a tutor for Coursehero, an American education technology website company. I answer students’ questions, do case studies, and solve problems related to business, general accounting, financial accounting, and cost accounting. However, schools have summer breaks, which affected my work as a tutor because by that time there were no available questions on the platform. I realized I needed to find another virtual job related to accounting/bookkeeping and auditing. If given the opportunity, I am certain that I will use my time working virtually to spend more time with my family while earning.
I had my first work experience as a bookkeeper in an accounting firm during my on-the-job training and was hired part-time for 6 months. I was tasked with the profit and loss statement, balance sheets, cash flows, and other accounting-related work.
My greatest achievement as an employee was when I was promoted to manager at the age of 23 in the credit and collection department of a lending company, where I mastered accounts receivable, specifically collections, aging, bad debts, and various concerns of clients regarding it. Furthermore, I was able to lead, oversee, and organize the team and check all their administrative work. I also report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and the Chief Executive Officer.
I also worked in the insurance industry for almost a year since it was my dream job, advising clients on financial education and helping them how to maximise their income while decreasing expenses. I love seeing people with knowledge of financial literacy because this will be a factor for them to become financially independent and give peace of mind while growing.
With this experience, I developed my advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, the accounting system of the company, and Google tools. Also being analytical and very attentive to details and professional in dealing with clients’ concerns and organizing structured work even under pressure.
In academics, I have been a consistent academic awardee since elementary school until I graduated college and got nominated for TEN OUTSTANDING STUDENTS OF THE PHILIPPINES, a national competition for exemplary students with excellent academic and extra-curricular records all over the Philippines.
