Quennie Espejo – Virtual Assistant
I took up a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. When I was still studying, I wanted to work in a corporate work setting, specifically in the Human Resources department but it all changed when I failed the board exam. My work experiences were not aligned with my degree because when I failed, I decided to change my career path.
I was a Management Trainee in a restaurant here in Bacolod for almost 3 years. I started working online last 2020 when the pandemic started. I wanted to try working at home because I’ve seen the stories of other freelancers as well. They said that it’s more comfortable to work at home because there’s no need for you to commute to work every day and no going through traffic jams while on the way to work, and you can also spend more time with your family. My first online job was as an ESL Teacher and I decided to shift into being a virtual assistant. It’s not easy to find a client, especially when you don’t have experience. That’s why I enrolled myself in freelancing courses and from there I started gaining some skills. It was still hard to get clients when you already have the skills because I think a lot of people are also shifting their careers when the pandemic started.
I had clients after several months of job hunting but it’s all just part-time projects. My first client was supposed to be a full-time job but during my 3rd month, I got sick, our whole family got covid. I didn’t work for more than a week because we were quarantined. Sadly, my client decided to change her virtual assistant. After I recovered, I again started finding clients but there were no full-time jobs available. When I finished my project with my last client, I started to find new clients again, I kept on praying to find long-term clients and a happy working environment where I can enhance my skills and grow more as a person.
One day, a friend of mine told me that she applied to the Virtual Assistant Team and she had a good experience during the interview, especially when she was talking to Alan. She said that she can already tell that it’s a good working environment that’s why I decided to submit my application. It’s my goal this year to find a stable job and to be financially stable.
