Monchito Simon – Architectural Draftsman, CAD Draftsman

Hi, I am Monchito Simon from the province of Bulacan, Philippines. My friends and colleagues call me Chito. I live with my wife and we just had our baby girl last April. I took a Bachelor of Industrial Technology Course with a Major in Drafting Technology from Bulacan State University. I also took several short courses during my high school years where I received my National Certification II. These courses included Drafting Technology, Mechanical Technology, Electrical Technology and Automotive Technology from which I gained important and useful knowledge from these fields.

My first work experience was being a restaurant crew and that was during my college years, so I worked while studying during that time. After college, I explored a different career and that is being a Technical Support Representative for several months. This allowed me to gain experience in providing support remotely to foreign clients while enhancing my communication skills. I enjoyed the support role and the knowledge that I obtained, but the graveyard shift affected my overall health and that made me decide to go back to where my skills really belong. That brings me back to my field of expertise which is being a design draftsman. I have been in this job for almost a decade and only proves that I really belong to this role.

My first five years of being a draftsman is in an office-based set-up. I really struggled with my daily commute experience during those years as the transportation was terrible. Then came the opportunity to work remotely after the pandemic. I realised a lot of things while working remotely. I can still be very effective in my job even if I’m working at home. Plus the convenience of not experiencing the city’s terrible condition of daily commute. I also have more time being a father to my lovely daughter and a husband to my lovely wife. These are just some of the perks of being on a work-from-home set-up.

I look forward to improving my skills and experience and at the same time meeting awesome people as I explore new opportunities in my career.
