Mary Yshabelle Flores – Administrative Assistant, ESL Tutor
Hey there! I’m Mary Yshabelle Flores, but you can call me Ysha. Just a fun sidenote: my friends and family back in the Philippines like to call me Chabs, Bing, or Chabing—so feel free to use any of those! Haha! I grew up in a household that was all about academics, especially in STEM, so you could say I was kind of nerdy from the start! I went to this exclusive science high school, and then I took it a step further by heading to the top university in the Philippines for my Bachelor’s in Fisheries. You know, just living that academic life.
When the pandemic hit, everything changed. I jumped into remote part-time work as an online ESL tutor, thinking that was my thing. I did that for almost three years, and while it was cool, I didn’t realise I had more skills to offer.
At the same time, I started a small pick-up coffee business for my fellow students who were pulling all-nighters. And guess what? It actually took off! I found so much joy in serving my friends and helping them stay awake, which made me realise I loved helping people. That was a total game-changer for me.
I also got involved with the OIKOS Ecological Movement, where I became a member and actively participated as a student activist. I worked on various initiatives that focused on sustainability and environmental awareness, which further fueled my passion for making a difference. I started doing some pro bono work while keeping up with my studies and getting involved in university organisations. I even helped organise events, which was super fun and gave me a taste of what it’s like to create meaningful experiences for others.
Eventually, I figured out that I could be a virtual assistant. I thrive in environments where I can support people, and it feels great to know I can make a difference. My journey has shown me that I’m not just a student or a tutor—I’ve got a lot to offer.
I’m ready to dive into this virtual assistant world, helping businesses run smoothly while still having fun and growing along the way. It’s all about making an impact and doing what I love!
What I’ve realised in my journey is that life isn’t set in stone. As a 23-year-old, I understand that humans are dynamic beings. It’s perfectly natural to keep figuring yourself out as you grow older. Life is just a fun journey after all!
