Kristine Lopez – Administrative Assistant, Customer Service
I am a registered nurse by profession but a corporate slave by passion.
I started my journey in the corporate world back in 2010, trying my luck in the BPO industry. It wasn’t that easy especially if you’re not trained to speak the language fluently. Fortunately, I got accepted to get trained in a communication skills workshop by a well-known center, but I was only paid for my allowance for half a month before we got evaluated and profiled to a sales account.
Thankfully, I was hired the following month and started to get used to the culture. After all, working in an office is such a big jump from being a student! My working career progressed and I transferred to a couple of companies in the past 10 years, becoming part of the management with my longest employment. Definitely, it was not pure luck. I worked for hours beyond my shift, doing initiatives, taking over more tasks, and a lot more. It was an overwhelming job – and yet fulfilling at the same time.
Then, when the pandemic happened, everything changed. Some companies decided to shut down and laid off their employees, while some were lucky enough to continue their work with a work-from-home set up. This is what a remote job offers you, and it was just last year when I realised its benefits. I started exploring during the first quarter of 2020 and landed a job as an executive assistant for a CEO of an IT company in WI. What made it interesting is that I was tasked to “write” more for him. This has been one of the skills I never thought I could enjoy. Although, I completed a journalism workshop back in High School I was not technically ready to write professionally for someone with such a volume of readers. Since then I’ve completed almost a dozen articles for his page. Then I was offered additional projects with different clients. This was just a part-time, contractual job that doesn’t pay that much, but the technical skills I’ve learned on my own to deliver top-the-notch projects for these clients has been enough to prepare me for my future career.
I believe that this team will enhance the experience I’ve had in the past year, incorporating the expertise I’ve utilised in the BPO set-up. I am driven and have always put my heart into what I do and I just need the right organisation to make use of it.
