Justin Paul Serrano – General Virtual Assistant
Hello, my name is Justin Paul P. Serrano, my family and friends call me Justin. I am a Bachelor of Elementary Education graduate and I’ve completed my academic requirements for a Master of Arts in Education major in Educational Management.
I am a licensed professional teacher and I taught at a state university for 6 years as a college instructor, handling professional subjects and have been fortunate enough to be promoted to the BEEd program chairperson last 2022. And yet, destiny seems to have different plans for me as I find myself being fascinated with the success stories of others, being virtual assistants. I was comfortable with my previous work setup and had reservations about giving up my status quo before finally taking the first step into becoming one by watching videos, reading articles, and enrolling in different classes on how to be an effective VA.
During my time as a teacher, I’ve learned to hone my communication skills by interacting with my colleagues and with students professionally and when time calls for it, casually. I also learned to develop my patience by interacting with different people with different competencies and by understanding that even when things go south and sometimes things do escalate, we as people just have different circumstances and hardships and it’s always better to be understanding. Also, during my stint as a teacher, I’ve developed my skills in creating letters in Microsoft Word, creating relevant visual presentations with Microsoft PowerPoint, and creating the campus schedule with the appropriate number of units in Microsoft Excel. There were times when we needed to collaborate with other instructors and professors, so we also used Google applications like Google Sheets, Google Drive, and Google Docs just to name a few.
During my free time, I enrolled in Coursera’s Data Analytics course which lasted more than 4 months to complete as a result, I could perform basic data analysis by using Microsoft Excel and the basic commands in program language SQL and R. Lastly, as the program chairman and being a part of the hiring process for would-be teachers, I developed an eye for people with a genuine interest in their career by asking the right questions and probing for answers.
Outside work, I enjoy traveling to local places with my partner, particularly beaches and when we’re not out of town, we spend most of our free days watching anime. I also enjoy choral singing as a baritone/bass and have been a part of a church choir group until its dissolution. I managed to be a part of the university choir and became a scholar when I was in college but I was not able to sustain the training along with the studies.
