Julienne Gomez, BSN, RN – Copy Editor
My name is Julienne Gomez. I am a graduate with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Silliman University. I have been working online for the past 5 years.
I am the youngest among three siblings. I grew up in a little city along with my family. At the age of 12, my parents decided to send me to Science High School in the neighboring city. It was one of the most difficult times of my life because I had to leave my comfort zone at a very young age. I had to live with my uncle and his family in Dumaguete City. It was really hard because I only got to see my parents on weekends, but I eventually learned how to adjust and become independent.
I love reading, dancing, singing, and traveling. I have a great love for music, regardless of the genre. If I would be given the chance, I would pursue my passion in music. I have also found a growing passion for cooking. I was never a sporty girl, but I have learned to love working out. Right after passing the board exam, I volunteered as a Labor Room and Delivery Room nurse in our provincial hospital.
I have done different kinds of jobs such as telemarketing, proofreading, and writing. After being a volunteer nurse, I was employed as a telemarketer for Island Merchants Corporation, which is the distributor for Nestle products in the whole Negros and Siquijor Islands. After working for Island Merchants Corporation, I tried my luck at SPI Global as a copy editor. As a copy editor, I was tasked to polish manuscripts before publishing, making sure the manuscripts submitted were free from grammar, spelling, syntax, and punctuation errors as well as improve readability and sentence structure.
After 2 years of working for SPI Global, I then applied for Thumbtack, which at that time was a startup company. That was the start of my online career. I was hired as an SEO/marketing/snippet writer. I was among those who write service descriptions for marketing purposes. I was eventually given other tasks such as handling special projects, scheduling interviews, contacting our service professionals, sourcing and recruitment, and quoting or bidding.
After 2 years of working for Thumbtack, which is now an office-based company, I applied as an online bookkeeper for a US-based entrepreneur. Since math is not my strong suit, I had to look for another job that would best fit my skills as well as my experience. I also worked for Cactus and Enago as a copy editor.
Right now, I am still finding my place in the online community. I may not be where I want to be right now, but I know things will fall into place in God’s perfect time. I consider my life a work progress.
