Jeremiah Pontillas – Social Media Manager, Customer Service
Hi, I am Jeremiah Pontillas. People from the office have a hard time calling me by my three-syllable name, so they started calling me by my phone name, “Z.” I live with my very supportive partner and our beautiful daughter, whom we also call Z (short for Zeraphim). I am a graduate of a Bachelor of Arts in English and Applied Linguistics at Cebu Technological University. Since I graduated, I worked from the office until the pandemic hit.
My first job since I graduated was teaching. I taught English as a second language. I had group, one-on-one, and online classes. It lasted for a year and a half until I found a job posting for an outsourcing company. I sent my application, and I was lucky to land the job. I was a phone banking representative (hence my phone name, Z). I’ve handled their accounts, transactions, and payroll. It was going smoothly until the COVID news came. The company was wonderful and provided everything we required, but because it is a financial account, the one thing we had requested could not be granted, which was to work remotely as other accounts did.
Being that I have a comorbidity, I ended up leaving the company to prioritize my health. I went streaming on multiple platforms to sustain my finances, which was really hard at that time due to the increase of streamers. My partner then introduced me to the virtual assistant world. She has taught me skills that she already has while also trying to learn new skills together. I worked hard at finding a client until I was blessed with a graphic design job for social media. Thankfully, my client promoted me to supervisor, where I gained a new set of skills as a VA. I did social media management, including editing videos and photos, writing captions, scheduling posts, setting meetings, and a lot more.
Working remotely has been a gift. It gave me and my partner more than enough time for our daughter. It allowed us to be at-home parents and still be able to provide for our child. The VA life is the only way I can see myself having the quality time that my little family deserves.
Working at the office, I tried so hard to be ahead of everyone else. Now, I always consider myself a beginner at anything. A beginner who is always willing to listen, learn, and apply only the best practices.
