Jennie Peña – Art Director
Hello there!
My formal name is Jennie Lynn Peña, but I’ve been known as Butchie ever since I can remember. I graduated at the University of Santo Tomas, with a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Painting.
I’m married and have three beautiful girls who are all professionals now. I’m at the stage in my life called “Empty Nester”. So I am practically free (almost) to do anything and go anywhere. My husband and I started in corporate advertising and after many years, I shifted to publishing where I worked as an art director in one of a network company’s prominent society magazine. During this time, I dabbled in other magazine and book projects (not competitive) on the side, as I was a retainer for almost 16 years! Seems I enjoyed this job too much that I did not care about that employment status. Shortly after, I shifted to digital publishing for two years then the pandemic hit. The company had to let go of a lot of employees as everything shifted and subsidiary companies within revamped to a work from home (WFH) mode.
As life and priorities changed, it is by God’s grace that despite what happened globally, my family was safe and simply provided for. With a lot of free time to paint, I had developed into a serious artist and at the same time was able to design and produced 2 cookbooks and 5 books on SMEs for an LGU office. (Local Government Unit in the Philippines )
I’m thankful that these past 3 years have made me take life easy, live simply, and create. But I still have this yearning to design books and magazines (brochures and newsletters included) And the reason why I came here at VA is to seek new opportunities and push forward to new undertakings. Of course I have looked at some jobs online and there is a good deal of jobs opening up again and it’s like… I felt I don’t want to work full time in an office again.
As I have been there and done a lot, my aim is to make something, to create and also help provide. The skills and experience I carry, I may be able to apply, collaborate and contribute.
