Jeany Labios – Virtual Assistant, Accounting Associate
Hi, I am Jeany Labios, my friends call me “Jenny” my family calls me “Nej”, but you can call me “Jini”. I love travelling to places with friends or family, watching Korean novels, and anime and playing computer games. I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Accountancy from the University of the East, I took the licensure exam, but unfortunately, I failed.
After the exam, I started out working as a Claims Data Analyst at Accenture for 2 years. I decided to apply on a day shift at Stolt Nielsen BV as a Junior Accountant with Accounts Payable as the main process. We were processing invoices within the agreed KPI and in accordance with SLA for Tank Containers located in Europe, EMEA, Brazil, and Japan.
After five years, I decided to move to another department which is the Marine Payroll as a Senior Accounting Associate. We were basically preparing and remitting the Seafarers’ payroll for Filipino, European and other Asian crew. We were also handling basic issues and/or exception items, and queries from employees, counterparts, marine crew, and/ or their beneficiaries/ allottees through Freshdesk.
As a Senior Accountant, we were also handling Accounts Analysis and reconciliation for some Accounts related to Payroll. Another five years passed, and I moved on to another department as a Senior Associate (Support Operator) an Operator which coordinates for Import transactions of Tank Containers for Singapore, Malaysia and Japan.
Last 2022, I decided to look for a part-time job, fortunately, I was hired as a Bookkeeper/Accountant (Virtual Assistant) for a startup agency staffing in Canada. This year, as the company grew, I decided to be a full-time Virtual Assistant for them.
For me, working remotely has changed everything. As a team player, I enjoy having in-person interactions and brainstorming sessions with my coworkers, but when I work from home, I can avoid sick days because there are fewer distractions, and I can be productive every day. Being a virtual assistant presents challenges of its own; in order to give your clients, the best service possible, you must constantly learn new talents and maintain a diverse skill set, and this is why I am looking for another opportunity to grow my skillset.
