Jannah Gicale – Bookkeeping, Customer Service
Good day, I am Jannah Alyonah B. Gicale, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy at the Southwestern University- PHINMA. Being able to graduate from this course is what I’m very much proud of because not everyone has that eagerness to continue this difficult program. Soon, I will be taking the CPA Licensure Examination and hopefully will be able to get the CPA title.
My first ever work experience was as a cashier/service crew at a local fast-food chain in our city. From this experience, I was able to meet different customers and their personalities and was able to handle them appropriately.
While I was studying, I was also working for my aunt who is also a bookkeeper. I helped her in keeping clients’ accounting books (journals and ledgers) updated. I was also assigned in making financial statements and responsible for making sure that clients won’t incur delays in government-related expenses like SSS and other mandatory contributions.
During the pandemic, I had a part-time job in an accounting firm and worked as a field accountant. I am most of the time at the client’s office because I offer them real-time accounting services like encoding and posting daily transactions (e.g. updating the sales and purchases journals) and also in ways I can help the client with other concerns.
In the same year, I had my internship at a government agency and was assigned in the Accounting, Budget, and Supplies unit. During my 3-month stay there, I became more familiar with government accounting. I was able to spot the differences between the processes and policies used and followed by government agencies compared to private companies.
As a student and an employee, I was able to learn the following skills:
- Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Bookkeeping (journalizing and posting of transactions, bank reconciliation, and preparing financial statements)
- Data Entry
Working while studying is a difficult task and I’m proud that I was able to perform both effectively. It is because I know how to manage my time wisely, I am well-organized, especially in my daily tasks, and I am diligent, focused, and passionate. I can work alone or with a team.
I aim to be part of a company that indulges professional growth and provides a challenging and rewarding career while allowing me to utilize my knowledge and skills. I also want to be part of a community that will not only allow me to utilize my knowledge and skills but also to gain more.
