Isaac Gabriel Odhiambo Atieno – General Virtual Assistant
Hello, my name is Isaac Gabriel Odhiambo Atieno. Most of my friends just call me Gabby. I’m a graduate in public health from South Eastern Kenya University. After school, I got an internship at a hospital in Kitui County, Kenya but I felt like this is not what I want to do for the rest of my life. I signed up for some digital marketing classes and acquired the soft skills I wanted to make money with. I wanted something that I could do at the comfort of my house.
After my one-year internship, I decided to freelance with the new skills I had acquired. It was challenging at first, but I managed to get my first client. I was so happy and gave it my best. I built them a website and managed their social profiles. I have been managing their Shopify storefront and social media pages as well. From this, I thought, why not upscale and learn more about WordPress, which I have been using to build some cool websites.
Then Covid came, and I decided to work from home. It was fulfilling as I had no stress of going to work. I could just build my workspace at home, and I did that. I wanted to explore opportunities outside the country as the pay is better compared to my local clients. All the clients I have worked with are very understanding. When I told them that I wanted to work from home, they didn’t oppose it and even helped me set up my home office.
I feel that working more with international clients will help me put my brand to world-class standards that are accepted globally. The flexibility that working from home gives me is amazing. I can even watch a movie and still do the work, multitask easily. When I am not working, I enjoy visiting new places and trying out new things. There is a beach in Mombasa, Kenya, that I visit when I am bored to refresh myself and take beautiful pictures of the ocean. It’s therapeutic.
Working from home has been the best thing that has ever happened to me, and I want to learn new things. I am fascinated by new technology. The next challenge that I am taking on is learning cyber security, as I think that is the next big thing most businesses will need in their day-to-day operations. I always love to learn new things, and I would say I am a fast learner. I pick up on new things quickly.
