Helen Palatis – Executive Assistant, Social Media Management
I’m Helen, a mom of 2 wonderful young men and a lovely daughter. I come from a family of servicemen and women. I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan. I didn’t expect to live the freelance life I have now. I dreamt of having a stable job so I can send my kids to school and give them a better future, and that meant being employed. My long-term goal was to live abroad with my family.
After I graduated, I put up a meat business that lasted for 5 years. Then I pursued my dream of working overseas. With my family left behind, I felt lonely and things didn’t go as I planned. Little did I know that God has chosen a different path for me. I came back home and worked in the BPO industry for 12 years. I started as an agent and worked my way up as an Operations Manager.
My scope was coaching, development, listening to calls, analyzing trends, creating action plans, payroll, upskill training, staffing, and coverage management, client-facing, and recruitment.
I love my job but spending 17 to 18 hours of my time on work and travel and the stress took its toll on my health and my relationship with my family. I started my research about freelancing then. But I was still afraid to lose a stable means of income.
When the pandemic hit and I started working from home, I was happy because I got to spend more time with my family and, also, I took a side hustle as a Virtual Assistant. I built my freelancing experience through client support, lead generation, social media marketing, CRM support, live webinar support, course and content creation, landing page design, and management.
It wasn’t until I got exposed to COVID that I realized that time is very important. And I lost so much time with my family.
My decision was made after visiting my parents and my son’s family last December and being sick again. I tendered my resignation last February to pursue freelancing and have the freedom to spend my time with my family whenever I want and be able to work wherever I want.
My previous employer and the client that I worked with can attest to my reliability and having a can-do attitude that made me a long-term partner in the company. Those qualities are my strength, which I will continue to exhibit to my future clients. I am a fast learner and can work with minimum supervision. I work well with a team or alone. I am big on communication which I expect from the client I worked with and with myself. I am also learning every day through free and paid courses training to improve my skills. I enjoy listening to motivation and mindset podcasts and I read self-development books to keep me motivated and help me stay on track with my goal.
My goal is to grow further in my career, and learn more skills and knowledge so I can improve myself and help my clients create more freedom, income, and growth by taking off the workload on the backend of their business.
