Gemmalyn Evangelista – Assistant Manager, Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist

Hello! I am Gemmalyn Panes Evangelista. I am 38 years old, married, and a mother to my only daughter. I graduated with a degree in Psychology from San Pedro College and am currently enrolled in a Master’s program in Psychology at the same institution. I have been an HR practitioner for over a decade, gaining experience in various industries, including manufacturing, construction, BPO, Banking and Finance, Water, Retail, and Missionary volunteer work.

I began my career in the BPO industry as a Human Resources Staff member for Operations, where I focused on records management and employee relations. After a year, I transitioned to the banking and finance sector, where I was involved in training and development. I learned about various aspects of training, including pre, during and post-training preparations as well as facilitation. I also had the opportunity to participate in the company’s market research for Microfinance Unit. While still working at the bank, I taught Psychology subjects to college students. As a psychology instructor, I was able to apply my training skills, especially in adult learning strategies, also refreshing my knowledge with current trends of Psychology.

From Banking and Finance, I moved to a manufacturing company as a Training Supervisor. During this time, I gained experience in training evaluation, and conducting audits on-site to assess whether plantation personnel were following good manufacturing practices and agricultural practices. This experience highlighted the importance of validating through practical application.

After working full-time straight out of college, I felt the need for a break, so I began exploring part-time jobs. For two years, I worked as a part-time Insurance agent and started my business as a distributor for a networking company here in the Philippines. Although I did not succeed with my business, I developed an appreciation for the insurance industry. However, sales were not really my passion and I longed for a role in Industrial Psychology. That was when I received the opportunity to work with one of the largest Retail Groups in the Philippines. I stayed with this retail company for 7 years, until the pandemic. In this role, I gained extensive experience in customer service, leadership training, coaching and mentoring, training implementation strategies, facilitating workshop sessions and inter-branch collaboration.

In 2023, I began my project-based employment in the construction of the largest bulk water supply in the Philippines, where I worked as a Recruitment and Onboarding Specialist. despite my apprehensions about the unique challenges of the construction industry, I took a leap of faith and joined the HR team on a project basis.

When my contract ended, I returned to the BPO industry, this time as a Business Partner. Although the work was fulfilling, I reached a point where I had to choose between taking good care of my daughter and pursuing my HR practice. It did not take long for me to decide to embrace the role of a full-time housewife. Now that I have adjusted to my responsibilities, I can explore the new adventure of having a remote job.

It is my desire that wherever God places me, I know that I can still serve my purpose and be fruitful.
