Gale Marie Cañada – Total Rewards Senior Specialist

I am a graduate of Bachelor of Science major in Psychology at the University of St. Lasalle Bacolod. Right after college, I wanted to look for work right away and like most others, I started as a Customer Service Representative and have handled both Voice and Non-voice accounts. After some time, fortunately enough, I was able to find a better work opportunity and have been in the Human Resources department for more than 10 years now.

My first HR job role was an HR assistant/staff in a distributor company. I did initial interviews for applicants, processed account openings for newly hired employees, payroll processing, attended and catered all employees needs and benefits, and computed final pays for separated employees. I have learned so much from there and I was lucky enough that I had the greatest supervisor and manager that guided me and taught me of how I can be a better employee and provide better service to our employees as well.

Eventually, I was hired as a Payroll Specialist in one of the call centres here in Bacolod and had worked there for 9 years. Though the position and responsibilities were no longer new to me, it was still quite a challenge working at first, not to mention handling more than 2000 employees (and it keeps growing) but also the pressure of ensuring to be able to work with accuracy and still be able to meet deadlines. I was assigned to process payroll disputes, accounts payables, keep track of Sick and Vacation leaves usages and balances, reporting of government mandated benefits, attending to all employees’ salary concerns, and payroll processing and validation. Working in this industry is not as easy as others may think, but being part of this company made it all worthwhile and memorable because not only have I gained and learned good work practices and ethics, I have also gained a second family.

My last Human Resource work experience was last October of 2021, as a Total Rewards Supervisor handling both Payroll and Compensation and Benefits. I have been part of the BPO industry for more than 11 years and decided to take a rest and look for other work opportunities given the current situation.

My job experiences helped me improve a lot with my written and oral communication skills. I became more confident and comfortable in dealing with others as well. I am also now proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Now that I am already married and blessed with a beautiful son, my top priority is my family. Working from home might be a new working environment for me, but I think this is really a great opportunity and a great work set up because I can still spend so much time with them and continue to provide financially as well.

As an employee, I continue to think of ways of how I can make things better and easier and how I can be of additional help to the entire team. I am also very much open and always excited for new learnings and training. I hope that I will also be able to inspire others to love what they are doing as much as I do with mine because working with passion makes everything a lot easier, smoother & lighter.
