Elyssa Marie Fadera – Medical Management Specialist, Virtual Assistant

Hello, I am Elyssa Marie Fadera but you can call me Elai. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Delos Santos College in the Philippines. After completing my degree, I decided to take a break from my studies and gain work experience before taking the board exam.

I am the youngest among my siblings and the only one who’s not married yet, so I am the only one still living with my parents. My siblings live nearby, so they visit often and we usually have a typical family day on Sundays where we have potluck and eat together. Since I have a lot of nieces and nephews, they usually call me “Tata Momma” because I love to spoil them, especially the little ones. I love kids and we usually have playtime when I am off work.

I also love to cook. In fact, I learned how to cook a few dishes during the pandemic. That is when I started experimenting with cooking based on whatever is available in the fridge—those were my only ingredients, and I didn’t have to go to the grocery store. So, I became resourceful during that time since I was working from home and was not allowed to go out. I had to be creative in many ways. Now that I am here in New Zealand, I have learned how to cook more dishes, and I have become even more independent, especially now that I am no longer living with my parents.

My fear is losing my parents too soon, and my hope is that they will live much longer. I also want to eventually bring them here or at least let them visit. Since I am the youngest, of course, I want them to still be around to see their future grandchild from me, to see me get married, and witness that I am living a good life. That is what they want too—for me to have a stable and happy life when I have a family of my own.

I started my career as a sales representative, where I initially felt uncertain due to my lack of experience. However, I grew to enjoy the role, and my hard work paid off when I was promoted to team leader. I stayed in that position for quite some time, but when COVID-19 struck and lockdowns began, I needed to pivot and find a work-from-home job.

I seized an opportunity in customer service, marking my first experience with remote work. Thanks to the support from clients and colleagues, I adapted quickly to this new environment. Although the salary was limited, I recognised the importance of finding a role related to my nursing background.

I was fortunate to secure a work-from-home position as a medical management specialist, where I handled inquiries and provided essential support to clients. My experience in healthcare, combined with my previous roles, led to my promotion to senior medical management specialist.

As I get ready to relocate to New Zealand with my partner, I am excited to pursue new work-from-home opportunities. I excel in remote environments, demonstrating strong adaptability, exceptional time management, and robust technical skills, particularly in CRM systems and communication tools. Given my diverse background, I am confident in my capacity to thrive as a virtual assistant or in any comparable role.
