Deanna Anisco – Design Architect, Junior Architect
Growing up in a family of engineers, I was immersed in the world of construction and design from a young age. With both my parents and older brother pursuing engineering careers, it was only natural that I developed a fascination for architecture. I knew early on that I wanted to become an architect—not just to design but also to build, creating spaces that would inspire and serve communities.
As I embarked on my college journey, my excitement for the field only grew. By my third year, I was eager to gain real-world experience, so I took the initiative to secure a part-time job as a CAD operator at a small architecture firm. This role not only provided financial support but also deepened my understanding of my studies. I had the chance to implement what I was learning in the classroom without the pressure of a full-time role, and I was fortunate to have a wonderful mentor—my boss—who guided me through those early days.
Throughout my college years, I thrived on juggling various responsibilities. I didn’t mind balancing my coursework with work, extracurricular activities, and a vibrant social life. I served as the school photographer for events, capturing memories and honing my creative eye. Each of these experiences was fulfilling and enjoyable, making it easy for me to stay engaged and motivated. The thrill of being involved in so many aspects of college life made the challenges feel manageable and even fun.
Now, as a graduate and a full-time professional, my passion for architecture remains unwavering. Every project I tackle energises me; it doesn’t feel like work because I genuinely love what I do. This enthusiasm helps me handle pressure well, especially with time-sensitive projects. I thrive in fast-paced environments, where I can utilise my creativity and problem-solving skills to deliver results.
Today, with a husband and a daughter, my motivation has taken on new meaning. I am driven not just by my passion for architecture but also by my desire to provide for my family while being present in their lives. That’s why I’m currently focusing on finding a work-from-home job. I want to balance my roles as a mother and wife with my career, ensuring I’m there for my daughter while still pursuing my professional dreams. My journey in architecture is far from over; it is just the beginning of a fulfilling career that I hope will leave a lasting impact on both my family and the world around me.
