Aprilyn Joy Candelaria – Social Media Manager, Draftsman

Hi, I am Aprilyn Joy Candelaria, you can call me April. I am 27 years old and currently residing in Camarines Norte, Philippines. I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering in 2019. A couple of years ago, I had the chance to meet an opportunity in the online world. Who would have thought that this flexibility to work from the comfort of your home really existed and had lots of potentials.

After I graduated, the COVID pandemic happened, and it really shut down everything I planned to pursue in my profession. With almost a year in lockdown, social media had its best time in the space, literally everything went online. I tried a few communities and a sort of job opportunity as well, but it didn’t go as smoothly as I’d imagined, scammers are everywhere.

In the last quarter of 2021, I had my first job and started working as a Site Engineer for a private contractor. I got to enjoy and learn from the environment of my profession. I won’t lie that it is very tiring and will consume your energy all day, knowing that I am not manly in physical doing back and forth inspection and some office work. Then along came the opportunity to work as a Freelance Draftsman. It was not an easy transition after I finished my project as a Site Engineer and did the freelancing job. But having your own time and meeting different clients really gave me the passion I have right now.

Surprisingly, after being a freelance draftsman for almost a year, my first online job came. It gave me the whole experience of the virtual world and allowed me to meet different people who’ve become my virtual friends. My job then was as a Data Scraper, where I researched, gathered data and consolidated it with high accuracy and detail. It was not an easy job as it may sound, but I learned fast and initiated helping other team members whenever they needed an extra hand for their tasks. I find teaching my colleagues with my idea is very fulfilling for me.

Pursuing this career is different from my profession and office work, but my passion and interest are leading me to this environment, in which I am able to work with the utmost flexibility and be able to help here at home. I just wanted to spend more quality time with my family while doing what I love. I may not have clients as of the moment, but this won’t stop me from still pursuing this career. I know I have more to offer and my passion for learning isn’t stopping me from joining trainings, webinars, or even watching videos from coaches. I always value a good work ethic and commitment to build trust not just being a colleague but, also as a friend.

At this time, I aim to expand my personal and professional growth to further advance my career, to use all my learnings, skills and knowledge, and to be able to apply them to my work and life as well.
