Ana Castro – Administrative Assistant
Hi there!
I am Ana Marie Cortes Castro, You can call me “Ana”. I am 30 years of age, have a 1 year and 4-month old son, not married yet. I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters. My father grows different kinds of vegetables in our backyard enough for us to eat every day. Sometimes, we can sell little and earn little. My mother passed away last September 25, 2015, because of Breast Cancer. My parents raised us not to complain about what we have, instead be thankful. If we want or need something, we have to work for it in legal, moral, and God-fearing ways.
I went to college, studied for a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering but didn’t finish it because of financial matters. So I have decided to find jobs to help my family and sustain our daily needs. In the Philippines, there are lots of requirements we need to provide before you land a job, so I tried “babysitting” and it doesn’t require any. In that way, I earned which means I have money to use to start to find another job where I can earn more.
I found an electronic job and I became a Visual Inspector. My main job responsibility was to:
Inspect and find mobile phones ( Sony Ericsson ) with various defects using my naked eye.
This job has special training you need to pass. I really liked the job but unfortunately, I lasted less than a year because a better opportunity came. My aunt bought me a visa in Dubai. I worked as a waitress for more than 4 years. It was an awesome experience. I gained more foreign friends with this job. I’m always excited to go to work every day. What I am doing is to take orders and serve customers happily. Making them friends is one of the factors I believe why they kept on visiting our shop. It’s incomparable when someone is always asking for your name, looking for you even if it’s your day.
And lastly, this is my favorite, to land a job in a Corporate World. I became a Personal Assistant in Real Estate. Still in Dubai. My role here is:
- More on clerical
- Data entry
- Monitoring property listings online
- Refreshing CRM daily
- Cold calling – finding potential leads
- Social media engagement
- Email management etc
I’m super blessed to have this job and to have an employer who treats me as a family. Having a good/cool boss made me work harder.
If you will notice, I had jobs in the past with different roles. It’s just proof that employers don’t need to find someone who has the experience to fill the vacant position you have. Everyone deserves to be hired with or without experience. Expert people started from nothing and there is always room to learn and to develop.
