Jestoni Salas – Flutter Developer, Software Developer
Hi! I am Jestoni Salas, a Software Developer. I am a 26-year-old man who is living independently along with my 2 cats. I started my career in 2018. A few months after graduating with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science, I started looking for a dream job which is software development. At first, it is hard since most of the companies at that time are not freshie-friendly. They always need an individual with experience which I don’t have since I am a fresh graduate. I had many rejections during interviews, and employers that did not call back. It’s really hard.
Fortunately, after many tries, I was hired as a junior .net developer. In the first year, I was enjoying my work, and colleagues except for the pay because it was only on a minimum pay at that time and it was hard because my work was a few cities away and the commute fee was almost 30% of my monthly salary which is not good for me. I can’t buy things that I want because I need to save money for my daily expenses going to work.
Fast forward to 2020, I decided to move on and find better opportunities. I found a new job which is good because it’s just within the city where I live but still on a minimum pay. I was doing fine here in a span of two months the good kept going until…the pandemic started because of COVID-19. We can’t go to work because it’s lockdown. Everyone is pinned at home, can’t travel and worst is I don’t have enough savings that time. Fortunately, I’m still with my family so I don’t have to shoulder all the daily expenses during the lockdown.
The lockdown is ongoing and I am bored as real in the house. I thought, what if I started learning new technologies. So I stumbled on Flutter, a mobile app framework for developing mobile applications. Days and months passed I was learning Flutter and I was actually able to create my own COVID count application at that time, which was amazing and fulfilling that time.
And when the lockdown and pandemic eased, I started to find a flutter job. I sent applications here and there and had rejections again which is fine because it’s part of the process. Fortunately, in the 4th quarter same year, I was hired as a flutter Developer/Mobile Developer. The feeling was surreal because I never expected that I would land a job on a thing that I only self-learned and just because I was bored. I started as a Junior Flutter Developer hoping to nurture my career.
Now, I proudly say that I am still a Flutter Developer but at a Senior level. In a span of 5 years, I can say that I am successful in my career. I have created applications and delivered them in production but still I have many things to learn and I won’t stop on that. I will keep learning and learning until I want to.
Thanks for reading I hope you enjoy my story.
