Dawn Yra Tenio – Administrative Assistant, ESL
Hello! I am Dawn Yra Tenio, and you can call me Dawn. I graduated from Tarlac State University with a degree in communications.
Back when I was still taking my collegiate degree, I had the opportunity to work as a private tutor to elementary and high school students. After class hours, I provided academic assistance to most of their subjects, namely, mathematics, English, science, and computers for my elementary student, and calculus, physics, chemistry, statistics and probability, and general math for my high school student. This experience lasted for four years, beginning in 2020 and ending in 2024.
Meanwhile, during my on-the-Job training (OJT) or college internship, I was able to fulfil administrative functions at the Yambao Yambao & Associates law firm. As a clerk, my daily routine spans from organising case documents to their corresponding case files, updating firms’s Google Calendar records, submitting case pleadings through the post office and to trial courts, compiling case evidence, and assisting lawyers during court proceedings. While this internship only lasted for a good 200-hour equivalent to more than a month, I got to familiarise myself with legal documents and proceedings that are helpful in fulfilling my administrative role.
In 2023, I managed to land a role as an English as a Second Language (ESL) Tutor at RareJob, Inc. After tutoring my elementary and high school students, I proceeded to tutor Japanese professionals online until midnight. This opportunity allowed me extensive training to self-study. Since I have to work alone, learning how to manage the platform, the lesson room, and the student experience improved my self-management skills.
My whole four-year collegiate stay was a mixture of knowledge-based and experience-based training. Studying during the day and working at night did not feel exhausting at all with the correct time and self-management.
Initially, I chose the course Communication with the intent to focus solely on content writing. However, different coursework such as public relations, advertising, organisational culture, and communication management, and opportunities to work with different people across different sectors provided me an in-depth understanding of how crucial and extensive the work of an administrative assistant is.
Now, as a fresh graduate, I am excited to develop my credentials more by leaning towards the role that I have long been interested in working on, which is administrative assistance.
