Marlie Gimeno – Administrative Assistant, ESL Teacher

Hi, my name is Marlie Jean Suizo Gimeno. My friends and family call me Jean. I am the eldest of the family. Earning a living wand sending us to school was quite difficult for my parents. However, I strived hard to finish my High School education beyond all odds in life and with high honours.

Pursuing my dreams was out of the question due to financial reasons, but I decided to try anyway. I went to Davao City and begged my aunt to allow me to live with them free of charge. I worked for them on Sundays to fill my stomach.

To continue my college studies, I applied as a working student as Student Assistant assigned at the School’s Registrar’s Office. I worked until I finally graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Mathematics at the Rizal Memorial Colleges, Davao City in 1994.

It is never a joke to work and study. I worked 8 hours daily and attended class from 5pm till 9:30pm everyday. But I thank God for I really learned a lot of things and how to manage time. After graduation, I landed a part time job as Office Clerk and a Secretary to a law firm for almost a year. Since I was seeking a brighter future, I decided to work overseas but unfortunately it experienced some bad luck. I was hired as a General Manager of the Cooperative and worked for almost four years (1995-2000) until I gave birth to my first baby.

I decided to stop working and had to rely on my husband’s income. It did not work at all. I started a buy and sell business to help support our daily needs. I worked part time as a group trainer, lecturer, facilitator, event host and help design programs and events. Multi tasking is real and I love it. I also worked online as an ESL Teacher at 51Talk since March 2019 until May 2020. Right now I manage my own online business.

Since I have three kids now, I need more work to support their needs. I am a down to earth person who loves to work with people and can easily adapt to any situations. One fact about me is that I love eating dark chocolates.
